At the recent 2024 Beijing Forum on Swift Response to Public Complaints, the Cases of Urban Governance Innovation (2024) was officially released, with the "Industrial Heritage Renewal: Revitalization of Beijing's Shougang Old Industrial Park" selected as a typical case.
These typical cases of urban governance are divided into two categories: international urban governance and China's urban governance. There are 40 typical cases of urban governance in China and the rest of the world, summarizing global urban governance experiences and models comprehensively and thoroughly from an international perspective. The selection was aimed at sharing and promoting successful practices and scientific concepts of urban governance innovation, demonstrating diversity in urban governance in different forms of civilizations, and facilitating mutual learning on urban governance around the world with suggestions given on building a global community of urban social governance.

Since 2005, Shougang Group has carried out strategic relocation and urban renewal actions with the aim of exploring new paths for the transformation of its traditional old industrial areas, to adapt to Beijing's ecological construction and structural transformation. Covering an area of about 7.8 square kilometers at the intersection of the west extension line of Chang'an Avenue and the green ecological corridor of the Yongding River, the New Shougang High-end Industry Comprehensive Service Park ("Shougang Park") is the only area that can be developed on a large scale in a concerted way within Beijing's six urban districts. Taking the opportunities brought by the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, it has been undergoing functional and spatial reconstruction, with the historic features of industrial heritage buildings preserved. Now, the once enclosed space where steel smelting used to take place has been transformed into a new landmark for urban regeneration, which has also revived the regional culture, industries and ecosystem and injected new vitality, setting an example of governance for the rest of the world when it comes to the revitalization and utilization of industrial heritage and the rejuvenation of old industrial areas.
Over the past 20 years, Shougang Park has undergone relocation, adjustment and transformation, and become a model for the revitalization of old industrial areas and urban renewal around the world, with extremely rich experiences in the organic combination of architectural quality and regional characteristics, and traditional culture and contemporary elements; effective organizational mechanisms, and clear and reasonable goals; respect for the laws that underlie urban renewal and industrial development; and the flexible industrial strategies that abide by certain principles.
