On March 16, the finals of the 4th Science Fiction Planet Competition concluded successfully in Shijingshan District, Beijing. As a core event of the China Science Fiction Convention, the award ceremony for the competition will be held at the Science Fiction Night and Science Fiction Planet Gala (科幻之夜暨科幻星球盛典), further highlighting the competition's power and industrial influence.
The competition received a total of 793 entries from 19 countries including Canada, the United States, Russia and Japan, as well as 32 provincial-level administrative divisions, Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR and the Taiwan region of China. After multiple rounds of evaluation, 21 award-winning projects across three categories were selected: "Science Fiction Technology", "Science Fiction Literature" and "Sci-Fi IP". In addition, 12 projects were chosen for the "Science Fiction Rising Star" program, demonstrating cutting-edge technological innovation, literary creativity and IP incubation potential in the science fiction sector.
Officially launched in January 2026 with a global call for entries, the competition retained its three classic categories—"Science Fiction Technology", "Science Fiction Literature" and "Sci-Fi IP"—as well as the "Science Fiction Rising Star" program. It further focused on two key areas: sci-fi games and frontier technologies. By integrating and refining the sub-categories, the competition broadened participation, improved the quality of entries and achieved full coverage of the science fiction industry chain. The competition system was also upgraded from the previous single-champion model to a tiered system with first, second and third prizes, allowing more precise identification of high-quality achievements in each sub-category. The total prize pool amounts to 6.65 million yuan, with a top individual prize of up to 1 million yuan, providing strong incentives for original works and effectively boosting participation among global creators and research teams.
As an international comprehensive sci-fi event independently launched by China, the Science Fiction Planet Competition was co-initiated by four leading figures in the field: Wang Jinkang, Liu Cixin, Wu Yan and Guo Fan. Since 2021, guided by the principles of "Advancing Technological Innovation, Facilitating Industrial Integration and Nurturing Original Creativity", the competition has been committed to building a global platform for exchange and cooperation for the sci-fi sector. It has laid a solid foundation for technological innovation and coordinated industrial development of the sector, while continuously elevating the influence and voice of Chinese sci-fi power on the international stage. Leveraging the industrial momentum of the China Science Fiction Convention, the competition has evolved into an important bridge linking global science fiction resources and demonstrating the robust strength of China's sci-fi sector, thereby serving as a key driver for the high-quality development of the science fiction industry.
