As one of the key projects serving and supporting the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics in Shijingshan District, Beijing Winter Olympic Park has recently been opened to the public. Covering about 1,142 hectares, it has become the first park themed on Winter Olympics in Beijing and a new resort for citizens and tourists. By now, the park has received nearly 200,000 visits.
The Park is located in the western part of Shijingshan District, along the Yongding River, and next to the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and Big Air Shougang. According to the concepts of urban renewal and integration, Beijing Winter Olympic Park has facilitated overall landscape improvement along the Yongding River, linking railways, Shougang Park and other enclosed areas. The integration of various elements including Winter Olympics, Western Hills and the Yongding River, outdated Shougang industrial site and railways has created a new landmark in the urban construction of West Beijing.
One of the greatest highlights of Beijing Winter Olympic Park is the 42-kilometer-long marathon route by the river, which is also the first fully enclosed marathon route in Beijing. The route starts from the marathon base located in the south of Jingyuan Road, to the park at the mouth of Gaojinggou River in the north, and passes Big Air Shougang, New Shougang Bridge, Yongding River Recreation Forest Park, Lianshi Lake Park and other "Internet-famous attractions". The entire route has fully integrated the elements of "the Yongding River", "Western Hills", "Shougang Industry" and "Winter Olympics" to provide greenways for convenient access and slow traffic. There will be diverse traffic routes with better quality, and runners can enjoy "smart marathon", "marathon by water", "marathon in park" and "marathon on the river bank".
As a city park themed on the Olympic Winter Games, Beijing Winter Olympic Park shows Winter Olympics features everywhere in its design. Visitors can appreciate the magnificence of Big Air Shougang from different angles, and the park will be dotted with 15 public sculpture artworks focusing on the four themes of ice and snow, culture, sports and livelihoods.
Currently, the marathon base, Yongding River Recreation Forest Park area, and Lianshi Lake within Beijing Winter Olympic Park have already been opened to the public. Shougang Park area also showcases its unique charm to visitors. Recently, the landscape improvement project of public spaces on the left bank of the Yongding River in Shijingshan District has been completed, and visitors can enjoy their tour along the river.
