On January 15, after two weeks of work, construction of the kicker of Big Air Shougang, located in Shijingshan District of Beijing, was completed. The shaping work of the trail has been basically completed.

According to the standards of the FIS, experts for the second time shaping will make precise shape for the position, height, elevation angle, parabolic length and angle of the quarterpipe in accordance with the trail design scheme of the two events of snowboarding and freestyle skiing big air. "For quarterpipe of this Winter Olympics, snowgroomers firstly push the snow roughly into the shape, and then we start artificial shaping work," noted Pan Xiaozhi, communications manager of the Big Air Shougang venue operations team. "For artificial shaping, preliminary shaping will be made by adopting different sizes of snow plows, spades and snow removal shovels, and then use precision instruments such as infrared level to ensure the finest shaping."

According to the field measurement, the height of the quarterpipe is about 4 meters, the slope between the kicker and landing ramp is nearly 40 degrees, and the length of the end zone is almost 30 meters." The two slopes are designed to assist the take-off and match athletes' descent angle respectively, so as to ensure the safety of athletes and reduce the chance of injuries caused by mistakes," explained Han Bo, competition deputy director of the venue operations team. "The design of these two angles is the most important part of the second time shaping work. The shaping workers accurately measure and construct the ramp in strict accordance with the requirements of FIS experts and competition rules."

The further shaping and maintenance of the trail of Big Air Shougang will continue, ensuring the best sliding conditions for athletes, and the trail will be officially delivered before the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games.
