The Beijing Olympic Winter Park has been officially opened on the 100-day countdown to the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022. Beijing, the "First City to host both Summer and Winter editions of the Olympic Games", welcomes its second Olympic Park after the Olympic Green, giving it two legacy landmarks to promote the Olympic values and spirit for the benefit of the local population.
Through its legacy work, Beijing 2022, in collaboration with the Chinese Olympic Committee, Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform, the People's Government of Shijingshan District of Beijing and Shougang Group, hopes to bring long-term benefits to the host city, the host country, and the Chinese people, and promote the Olympic Movement as well as urban and regional development through the staging of the Games. In order to continuously carry forward the Olympic spirit, engage people in the practice of winter sports, make good use of the sports venues and facilities after the Games, and stimulate urban and regional development, the Beijing Olympic Winter Park is now open in the Shijingshan District.
The Beijing Olympic Winter Park is composed of many sports facilities, such as ,the Big Air Shougang, the Headquarters of Beijing 2022, as well as the National Winter Sports Training Centre, etc. It will becoming a popular public attraction for sports for all, high level sports competition and leisure activities after the Games.
The Beijing Olympic Winter Park is located on the former Shougang Group industrial park. The industrial park has been in connection with the Olympic Games since 2003. To implement the nation's strategy and support the preparations for the Beijing 2008 Games, the entire industrial park operations was relocated in order to contribute to reducing air pollution. It also took an active part in related projects, including the constructions of the Bird's Nest, Water Cube, and Main Torch Tower, and created other well-known contributions for the Beijing 2008 Games. The Olympic Games Beijing 2008 catalysed its transformation and the upcoming Beijing 2022 Games is restoring its glory by transforming the old site into a new development area with such functions and services as sports and fitness training, events and competitions; leisure and entertainment; digital and creative business; and exhibition and convention services.
IOC President Thomas Bach said in a congratulatory video: "the Beijing Olympic Winter Park will be one of the great legacies of this Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, because with this transformation of all the area, it is setting a great example and a benchmark for environmental friendly transformation from an industrial site to an Olympic site and to the site of the Organising Committee of the Olympic Games."
On behalf of the Executive Vice President Zhang Jiandong, Mr. Piao Xuedong addressed: "The Beijing 2022 Games is the first Games in the world to deliver a legacy plan as per the Olympic Agenda 2020. The naming and opening of the Beijing Olympic Winter Park represent a most significant Games legacy alive even before the Games, it will keep promoting the Olympic spirit and value in large, and be a better place for sports for all and winter sports promotion, leave lasting benefits to the local people and development of the territory and City of Beijing."
Living true to the motto of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games - "Together for a Shared Future", we will continue to work with the IOC to promote the Olympic spirit and values, make the Olympic Movement a part of daily life in Beijing and China, and create lasting legacies for the people, territories and sport.
Beijing 2022 will regularly report on the legacies of the Games in the fields of sports, economy, society, culture, environment, urban development and regional development through videos, brochures and reports.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Chinese Olympic Committee, relevant departments of Beijing 2022 the Shijingshan Government of Beijing Municipality, and Shougang Group.
