Recently, a series of winter sports themed events were held in Shijingshan District of Beijing, such as the national promotion conference on "Promoting 300 million People for Winter Sports", the first China Winter Sports Development Forum and Industry Expo, and finals of the first China Digital Ice and Snow Games. At the promotion conference, Shijingshan District was presented with a plaque for demonstration zone of "Promoting 300 Million People for Winter Sports" by the General Administration of Sport of China.
Shijingshan District, as a "host district for both summer and winter Olympics", is where the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, Big Air Venue of the Winter Olympics, and the National Winter Sports Training Center are located. In 2019, the district signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Winter Sports Management Center under the General Administration of Sport of China to lead the development of a demonstration zone of "Promoting 300 Million People for Winter Sports" and to now become the first place honored for the title of a demonstration zone.
In recent years, Shijingshan District has continuously increased the supply of venues for winter sports, and vigorously introduced social investment to participate in the construction and operation of the venues. These venues were put into use one after another. Driven by the construction of the venues, mass ice and snow activities in Shijingshan District have become much more popular. Since the beginning of building a demonstration zone for "Promoting 300 Million People for Winter Sports", mass ice and snow activities have been widely held throughout the district. At present, there are about 300,000 people participating in winter sports in the district each year, accounting for 52.6 percent of the district's population.
In order to promote the culture of Winter Olympics and winter sports on campus, Shijingshan District has launched 9 education programs, including Olympic education popularization, cultural programs, competitions, construction of demonstration schools, teacher training, domestic and foreign exchanges, voluntary services, curriculum development, and inheritance programs, encouraging students to love, participate in and support the Olympics. At present, with the support of 19 district-level schools featuring winter sports and 20 school teams of winter sports, Shijingshan District has achieved the goals of "enabling all primary and middle school students to take up winter sports and Olympic education, and completing the winter sports training of PE and dance teachers".
Taking the promotion conference and plaque awarding as an opportunity, Shijingshan District will vigorously respond to the call of "Promoting 300 Million People for Winter Sports", live up to the glory and shoulder due responsibility as the "host district for summer and winter Olympics". It will grasp opportunities in the golden period of preparing for the Winter Olympics to promote the sustainable development of winter sports. It will continue to support the popularization of youth winter sports, improvement of winter sports facilities, winter games, industry of winter sports, competitive winter sports, construction of urban service facilities, mass consumption of winter sports, urban ice and snow brands. Besides, it will play a leading role as a demonstration area for "Promoting 300 Million People for Winter Sports" for greater achievements.
