At present, the 42-kilometer marathon route, a great highlight of the Beijing Winter Olympic Park, is nearing completion, and the six major landscapes along the route, including the marathon base, "Jinghua Shuiyun" (Water Charms of Beijing), and the high line park, are stepping up their construction. The entire Beijing Winter Olympic Park will be completed and unveiled on October 1, 2021. It will become a vibrant civic park with elements of marathon, industry, railways and Winter Olympics.
The 42-kilometer riverside marathon route, based on the slow traffic system of greenways by Yongding River, connects Lianshi Lake Park, Yongding River Leisure Forest Park and Gaojinggou River-mouth Park, and interlinks the green spaces previously separated by railways and walls At present, the construction plan for the internal marathon route of the Winter Olympic Park has been completed. Except the 300-meter section under the New Shougang Bridge that will be constructed together with the Bridge Park, all other sections have been completed.
The marathon base is equipped with a smart LED wall in the starting area on which the runners' posture will be dynamically projected when they start running, enabling interesting interaction with the runners. After starting from the base on the south, the marathon route extends northward to Gaojinggou River-mouth Park, passing Yongding River Leisure Forest Park, Lianshi Lake Park, Big Air Venue at Shougang Industrial Park, and New Shougang Bridge. Compared with other existing Beijing urban marathon routes, the new one does not cross the downtown area and is the first fully enclosed marathon route in Beijing. In addition, there is a 2-kilometer parent-child running route, a 10-kilometer night running route, and a 21-kilometer half-marathon route for citizens to choose from.
The entire marathon route connects the six major landscapes in the Beijing Winter Olympic Park, including not only the marathon base on the southernmost side, but also the main scenic area of "Jinghua Shuiyun", Parent-Child Ice Park, Bridge Park, "Ice and Snow Forest" as well as the high line park from south to north.
