Recently, the 2025 "Beijing Gifts" Global Cultural and Creative Competition announced its results, and the Shougang Locomotive-Themed Refrigerator Magnet successfully made it to the award list in the "Socialism-Themed Creations" category. It stands out as a representative work showcasing the integration of the capital's industrial cultural heritage and innovative design.
Drawing inspiration from Shougang Park's iconic structures, the magnet incorporates more than 10 distinctive elements such as the Main East Gate, the No. 3 Blast Furnace, the Big Air Shougang, the steel ladle converter, and the locomotive. Crafted in zinc alloy, it reflects Shougang Park's transformation from an industrial heritage site into a model of adaptive reuse. By blending industrial history with contemporary design, its cultural creations have developed several creative cultural items integrating elements from the Winter Olympics and the local industrial history into premium materials, adding unique charm to Beijing's cultural identity.
The 2025 "Beijing Gifts" Global Cultural and Creative Competition marked the first global call for submissions across two main categories: finished products and design concepts. These were further divided into six sub-categories: "Ancient Capital Impressions", "Socialism-Themed Creations", "Sci-Tech Integration", "Fashion Trends", "Scenario-Based Innovations", and "International Gifts". The competition received 4,410 entries, with 58 finished products and two design concepts ultimately selected for awards.
