Following a fundamental stage centering on digital entertainment and a rapidly growing stage featuring digital innovation, the digital cultural industry of Shijingshan District has entered a period of high-quality development.
In 2021, the revenue of cultural and other relevant industries above state designated scale in Shijingshan District reached CNY 91.04 billion, increasing by 15.6 percent year on year. Meanwhile, the profit of cultural and relevant industries above state designated scale achieved CNY 12.13 billion, with a year-on-year increase of 271.9 percent, ranking fifth in Beijing Municipality in this regard. The average growth rate of industrial revenue was 45 percent in 2020 and 2021, ranking first among other districts in Beijing.
Three sectors, namely digital media, creative design, and animation and games are the main contributors to the development and achievements of Shijingshan's cultural industry. In 2021, there were 109 enterprises above state designated scale in the three leading sectors, contributing a total revenue of CNY 86.37 billion which accounts for over 90 percent of the total income of the cultural industry in the district. The two competitive sectors, namely television and film, and press and publication, keep a good development trend. Besides, a great number of enterprises renowned for both their industrial influence and professional strength have gathered in the district. Zhongguancun VR Industrial Park has attracted more than 100 enterprises. ZGC Sci-fi Industry Innovation Center was officially open to the public, reflecting that virtual reality, sci-fi e-sports and other emerging industries are all gaining momentum.
In 2021, the number of the digital cultural enterprises above state designated scale was 92 in Shijingshan District, accounting for 57 percent of the total cultural enterprises that are above state designated scale. The revenue of the digital cultural industry reached CNY 82.74 billion, which accounts for 91 percent of the revenue in cultural and relevant industries in the district, 25 percentage points higher than the average level of Beijing. With such an advantage, Shijingshan took third place in Beijing in terms of the revenue of digital cultural industry.
Among the 162 cultural enterprises above state designated scale in the district, ten cultural enterprises acquired respectively an annual revenue of CNY 1 billion or above, and one cultural enterprise achieved an annual revenue of CNY 10 billion or above in 2021. In the district, one enterprise became the largest unicorn in the world and 32 enterprises were selected as municipal specialized, high-grade and innovation-driven businesses that provide distinctive products and (or) services.
At present, there are eight cultural industrial parks and clusters established in Shijingshan District. Among them, Shougang Park and Langyuan Park were included as municipal-level cultural industrial parks. The science and technology industrial park of Beijing Heavy Duty Motor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. was selected as a municipal-level pilot project for the preservation and utilization of old buildings and industrial heritage sites and the expansion of cultural space. More enterprises of the science fiction, e-sports and other emerging cultural industries choose to settle in Shougang Park, while a science fiction industrial cluster with international influence is taking shape there.
Shijingshan has held a series of cultural events, including the 2022 Cultural Festival of Western Hill and Yongding River Beijing, and Beijing Consumption Season. Two annual sessions of the China Science Fiction Convention, Beijing International E-Sports Innovation and Development Conference, Light of E-Sports Expo and other events relevant to the cultural and other related industries took place in the district. Besides, the district also showed domestic and international visitors its new driving force of development at the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS).
