Situated on the northwest side of Shougang Park, Winter Olympics Square, the first renovated facility in Shougang Park, can always catch the eye of visitors.
"This is the West Ten Silo where iron-making raw materials were once stored. Now, it has become the office area of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games…" With simple make-up, Jiang Jinyu, the "gold medal" expostor is narrating the changes of the silo.
After graduating from a technical school, Jiang Jinyu started her career in Shougang Group, working as a bridge crane operator. "When I worked at a height of about 20 meters, it was inconvenient to go to the toilet, so I had to drink little water," Jiang Jinyu recalled.
At the end of 2010, the Beijing factory of Shougang Group was completely shut down. "At that time, I was very confused. After the shut-down of the factory, what should I do? What can I do? These questions haunted in my mind every day," said Jiang Jinyu. What she did not expect is that she got involved with the Winter Olympics as the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games moved its office into Shougang Park in 2016.
Jiang Jinyu clearly remembers that it was on March 8, 2016 when she started working in the Beijing Shougang City Services Co., Ltd. as an expostor in the office area of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
"I used to be a machine operator, only saying a few words a day. Now I have to communicate and interact with audiences at any time as an expostor, and I was very uncomfortable at the beginning," Jiang Jinyu said. After lots of practices, she has gained more and more experience and become less nervous.
As many foreigners visit Shougang Park, Jiang Jinyu found that sometimes interpreters couldn't accurately express the terms such as "silo" and "bunker". Therefore, she decided to learn English. She once received Andrew Parsons, president of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). After knowing that Jiang Jinyu used to be a front-line worker in Shougang Group, Parsons was very surprised and praised her. Jiang Jinyu said that she would continue to learn English and "spread the Olympic spirit and ice-snow culture to more people and even to the whole world".
