Founded in 1978, Shougang Institute of Technology (SIT) is an engineering institution of higher education approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China.

SIT comprises the School of Economics and Management, the School of Computer Science, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Architecture and Environmental Engineering, and the Department of Basic Education and the School of Adult Education. It offers 25 higher vocational education majors including marketing and planning, environmental monitoring and governance technology, and 8 undergraduate and post-secondary majors of academic education for adult education including organic-electric technology (OET) and business management.

With a total area of 167,535 square meters, the college has a 400-meter standard environmentally friendly rubber track and various kinds of ball training courts. Additionally, it is equipped with modern teaching facilities such as training centers, computer classrooms, specialized classrooms, laboratories, network center and a library with a collection of 294,000 books.
